Recently I have been captivated by the story of little Stellan, who is just a month or so older than Bryce. Stellan was diagnosed with a heart defect while in utero (at about 20 weeks), they tried treating Stellan in the womb but thought they were unsuccessful. Stellan was strong and born at full-term, surprisingly, without any heart problems.
Since his birth Stellan has been in and out of the hospital. He has even been flown across the country to have an ablation done on his tiny heart at just the age of 4 months. Stellan was recently back in the hospital where he wasn't doing well at all and another miracle occured for him. He is truly being watched over by God, he was just released yesterday and is peacefully living at home with his family.
Stellan is the youngest of 4 children (all born within 3 years of each other!) and is very lucky to have the family and support that he has. I don't usually get wrapped up in stories like this, but I guess becoming a mother has changed me in more ways than one! I look at my life and faith in a much different way since reading Stellan's story in the last few weeks. In the last week, I have caught myself not caring about the (less)important things in life...like cooking, cleaning, laundry and just enjoy my time with Bryce. Life is short, sometimes too short, and I have decided that living my life in the way I see fit is the way that I want to live. I don't care anymore about how my house looks...my child is healthy and happy...and that is all that matters.
I have placed a button on the side of my blog where you can click and read about Stellan. But I must say, it is very hard to read at times, to think that such a tiny-nondeserving baby has to go through something like this. It was truly heart-breaking to think that he, only a month older than my sweet baby, is suffering in so many ways. I continue to pray that Stellan becomes stronger each and every day and makes it to the age that they can successully put in a pacemaker so that he will enjoy his life..even more.
