Introducing...

Bryce Jeffrey Wassmann

November 30, 2008 - 3:50pm

6 pounds 13 ounces

19 1/2 inches long

Bryce was ready to enter this world Sunday afternoon and wasted no time at all doing it! Dale and I were attending a family Thanksgiving at my grandparents house Sunday afternoon, I had been having a few contractions all morning but nothing was timely so I just thought it was another day with little to no progress. So we went to dinner, at lunch and were getting ready to leave because I wasn't feeling the best when my water began to leak around 2pm. We left quickly and came home to get our bags and headed for the hospital...of course, it was Thanksgiving weekend so there was a ton of traffic on interstate. We got to the hospital at 3pm, luckily we were the only ones in there. I went straight to triage to get checked and I think they realized that I was in active labor and there was not time for that so they wheeled me straight to a delivery room. When they checked me there I was already 7 cm dilated and they said if I wanted my epidural they had to act fast. Well, fast wasn't fast enough. By the time they had gotten my IV in place and blood drawn I was completely dilated and ready to push. I was happy to see my doctor was on-call on Sunday so it was comforting to have her there. She said to me - you can have an epidural but it's going to take about 20 minutes to come into effect and we're going to have a baby in about 10 minutes. Needless to say, there was no time to waste and Bryce was born at 3:50pm (about 2 hours from the time my water broke).

Never in my life would I have dreamed that I would have had a natural childbirth and handled it the way I did. I must say I am very proud of myself and Bryce for the way things went. They said he was 3 weeks early and everything looks great. The only problem we have is all of his clothes are too big...but I'm sure we can manage until he puts on a little more weight! He has an appointment tomorrow to get checked out for a little infection in his eye, but to me it has already been looking a lot better.
I will do my best to keep everyone posted with pictures!

Hearing about Bryce's birth has put me in freak out mode. I started packing my hospital bag right after Mary called Sunday evening!

Congratulations Wassmann Family!!

How amazing is that- early, fast and perfect in the end! What a fun story to tell and remember!

By the way- wondering if you were up for being a surrogate in the future if I get another crazy idea?!

Oh Ashley, how cute and precious he is. I bet you guys are beside yourself with joy! Nothing compares ever to the birth of your first child. I'm a little miffed that you went so quick ;) some people have all the nerve ;)

Ethan is happy he was born on his birthday and we all think his name fits him to a "T".

Take care and hope to see you soon. Lana, Greg, Ethan and Stephanie
