Bryce's New Cousin

We welcomed another adorable boy to the Wassmann family!! Caden George Schuster was born Tuesday, January 27 at 9:45pm. He weighed 6 pounds 9 ounces and was 20 inches long (although he looks longer than that to me). He was a little early...but healthy and happy!! Here's a picture of Caden....

Awww...so precious!

More Pictures

More Smiles!!

He is only a few weeks old in this picture...this is my favorite picture so far!

This is how he is every night when we get home. He always talks and smiles for a while and then takes a snooze!!

Bryce in his cute Chaps Ralph Lauren Outfit!

This is how I found him this morning in bed! I know...you aren't supposed to let them sleep on pillows or with blankets, but this is the only way Bryce will sleep. We think he likes the Boppy Pillow because he feels like some one is holding him. He was sound asleep and really didn't want to get up this morning!
**Just a note....everyone has commented on how this looks uncomfortable..so that you know, he no longer sleeps in his pillow. We have gotten him to sleep in the positioner so that he still feels snuggled without the pillow!**

Happenings....

The month of January has really gone fast for us...it's hard to believe that on Friday Bryce is going to be 2 months old. I haven't had much time to update the blog lately, so I thought I would hit the highlights for you tonight.

Bryce was baptized on January 10. We were lucky enough to have the whole family there with us. After mass we all came back to our house for a meal and just to visit.

I went back to work on January 20. Bryce has been going to the sitters since then, and seems to really enjoy it! At least I'm not hearing any complaints! He's been smiling at the sitter in the mornings and not giving her too much trouble. I would much rather be at home with him during the days, but it really makes me feel much better knowing he is in good hands while I'm working.

After the first day at the sitters. I laid him down just long enough for me to change my clothes and he was sound asleep!!

Dale and I are graced with coos and smiles throughout the day. It really brightens our days when Bryce just sits and talks to us or gives us a full face smile. I've found it hard to get anything done in the evenings because I'm spending all of my time with Bryce.

It's hard to get a good picture of him smiling...I don't catch them quick enough. These are the best I've got.

We've been spening a lot of time with family and friends. We recently celebrated my parents 25th anniversary, Chase's 4th Birthday, and we are anxiously awaiting the birth of Debbie's baby. The future months look to be as busy as the past month so be looking for new pictures and posts!

Surgery Follow-Up

Yesterday I took Bryce to his 2 week follow-up appointment for his surgery. So, when he was admitted into the hospital he weighed 9 pounds, yesterday the scale said...11 pounds. Can you believe it? I was so amazed, I don't know where he stores all 11 pounds, but that's what the scale said. WOW!!

Everything checked out just fine and all of his doctors/residents were glad to see him back. They all raved over him in the hospital and yesterday they were all so glad to see that he was doing much better. It made me feel so much better that they actually remembered who Bryce was, I'm sure some of his nurses would have been glad to see him too if they would have known we were there.

Bryce has his 2 month appointment next Friday...we'll see how much weight he gains by then!

Stressful Start to '09

Even though I still have a positive outlook for the New Year, it has been a stressful year thus far. Our stress actually began before the New Year on December 30...Bryce and I had taken a shopping trip to Columbia because it was such a nice day. When we got home I was feeding Bryce and he took the whole bottle like always and as soon as I sat him up to burp he had some major vomitting and lost what looked like everything he had just taken. I read up on spit up/vomitting in my What to Expect book and convinced myself that everything was going to be fine. When the spitting up continued I got worried and took him to the doctor. We switched formulas in hope that he was just not liking the formula...but that didn't work. I took him back to the doctor on Monday that 5th and they decided to have him tested for Pyloric Stenosis...something that I had as a baby as well as his Uncle Danny...so it was likely that he had it too. We went to Boone Hospital to have an ultrasound of his stomach done and it was pretty clear the he had it and would need surgery. So from Boone Hospital we traveled to the Unversity Hospital where he was admitted and preped for surgery. I was anxious and wanted the surgery done that night, but we were scheduled for surgery until noon the next day. I think I was so exhausted from the weekend of no sleep and stress of him vomitting everywhere that it didn't really kick in that he was having surgery until later. We survived the first night after he spit up all over the place and he settled in for the night and actually slept good. His surgery went well and he did really good coming back from being put under. But I think he was a little sore, tired and confused that all he wanted was for someone to hold him, so the second night definitely didn't go as smoothly as the first night. He was hungry also and he was only able to eat 1 oz of Pedialyte for the first 6 hours and then we slowly increased from Pedialyte to Pedialyte mixed with formula to straight formula. It didn't take him long to get back up to 4 oz of formula and he is going strong from there.

It's been a week since his surgery and he is taking formula well and slowly getting back on a schedule. I am excited to say that he slept in his room alone last night and did a great job! We were so close to getting him to sleep through the night before he got sick, but soon enough he will get there. He starts going to the sitter's in a week and maybe by then we will have him on a better schedule.

Merry Christmas

We had a great Christmas this year, especially since we were able to share it with Bryce! I know he had no idea what was going on, but it was was fun sharing these first moments with him.

Our first family Christmas was the Saturday before Christmas at the Day Family. It's was nice having everyone there and getting to introduce Bryce to the family. He did great and was even able to sleep...especially when Grandpa was holding him!

My Grandma made her first quilt for Bryce...I think its wonderful!

Christmas Eve we went to church at Billingsville and then to Grandma Wassmanns. Bryce was an angel during church, they rang the bells and he didn't even flinch!

Christmas Day was a very busy day. We began with breakfast at my parents (Mama and Papa Buffy) house. He was spoiled by everyone. He got to hang out in his PJ's until it was time to leave.
Dad was hanging on to Bryce during the present opening!

We then went to the Vest family Christmas. Dale had a good time playing bowling on the Wii. It looked like fun, but its just not for me! After that, we headed straight to see Grandma Linda and Papa. This had to be our craziest Christmas....Cole and Tyler sure did keep us entertained with all of their gifts.

It's hard to get 3 boys to completely cooperate for pictures!

It was a great Christmas for us. I hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
